Description
This abbey tour with wine tasting near Pisa starts at the Badia di Morrona, a Romanesque abbey from the 11th century set in open Tuscan countryside. A guide leads you around the cloisters and the ancient stonework, and it is easy to picture the monks who once lived within.
Next stop is the winery that belongs to the abbey's owner. You see the areas where red and white wines are made, then the barrel room, and last the ageing room with its cement tanks.
Then you sit down to taste. Five regional wines are poured, with at least one Chianti among them, with a selection of local products, cured meat and cheese among them, followed by a Tuscan first course of the traditional sort, such as fresh pasta. The dish changes with the season.
- Guided visit of the abbey
- Guided walk through the winery
- Tasting of five wines with a light lunch
Plan on three hours in all. A car is essential, because it is the only way to reach the meeting point, and transport is not included. Young guests are welcome and get food and an alcohol-free drink. Wheelchair users can come, but the stairs close off part of the winery.
