New Fortress Tour in Livorno with VR Headsets

The New Fortress tour in Livorno begins at the fortress entrance, with an introduction to its Medici origins. You then step into the Sala degli Archi, where brick vaults, projections and multimedia displays trace the story from the early days of Livorno to the Pentagono di Buontalenti.

Next comes the walk on the walls, past sentry boxes and scenic walkways. From the top you look over the Medici canals, the Venezia Nuova district and the city, while the leader shares tales of Livorno's seafaring and multicultural past.

The route also takes in the green area inside the fortress, a good place for photos, and the armoury and escape route, where local legends and everyday life in the fortress come back to life. You learn how the place changed over time, from a military stronghold to a city park.
