Description
A Lucca walking tour of about two hours with a licensed local guide takes you through the old town, past San Michele and the Guinigi Tower, and along the city walls.
Lucca kept its independence for many centuries, and this Lucca walking tour shows how much of that old city-state is left. You find your guide at the Tourist Information Center and spend two hours on foot in the historic centre with a licensed local guide. The guide speaks English and Italian during the walk.
Lucca came through the wars without the damage that hit many other places, so its art and architecture are among the richest in Tuscany. The route takes in:
- Piazza San Michele, with a church over a thousand years old
- Piazza Napoleone
- Via Fillungo
- the Torre delle Ore and the Torre Guinigi
- San Frediano
- Piazza Anfiteatro
- the 1500s city walls
The walk ends at Lucca Cathedral. If you would like to see the inside, the guide can take you in for a separate entry charge. If not, the tour is over and you are free to sit in a café with a drink or keep exploring the streets on your own.
