Description
This Pisa guided tour starts at Piazza dei Miracoli, beneath the Porta Nuova arch, where a licensed local guide meets you. The group is small, with a maximum of 15 people, and headsets are provided for groups over 7. The first stop is the Cathedral, where mosaics, columns and odd symbols carry centuries of history. Next is the Baptistery, famous for an acoustic effect in which whispers turn into song.
After the guided interiors, your guide points you toward the places many visitors skip, and you explore them at your own pace:
- the Monumental Cemetery
- the Opera del Duomo Museum
- the Sinopie Museum
Entry tickets for all of these are included, so no one queues at the ticket office. If you choose the option, the visit ends with the climb of the Leaning Tower at a timed entry. The tower visit lasts about 35 minutes and takes you up 251 steps for a view over the city. Children under 8 cannot go in, and those under 18 need an adult with them.
Cover your shoulders, half thigh and back in the Cathedral, and leave bags at the left-luggage office before the tower. A religious service may occasionally close the Cathedral to the guide. Tips and transport are not included.
