Description
This Livorno walking tour gives you two hours with a licensed guide and a route through the city's stories and canals. The guide meets you in Piazza della Repubblica, beside the Monument to Leopold, and leads you down to the Fortezza Vecchia. You look at its thick walls from outside while the guide recounts the defences it held and the ships and fortunes that passed through the harbour.
From there you enter the Quartiere Venezia, where bridges cross the canals and old buildings stand reflected in the water, then follow Via della Madonna, with a story to tell about its facades. The group is small, and earphones are handed out when it exceeds ten people.
You decide how the tour ends when you book, from three endings:
- The walk ends near the Mercato delle Vettovaglie, and you explore on your own
- A gentle barchino cruise along the canals of the Medici ditches
- A wine tasting inside the market, with local wines from the Tuscan coast and typical Livorno appetizers
Comfortable shoes are recommended. Tips, hotel transfers and extras are not included. Depending on the ending, the tour can last up to three hours.
